Job Description:
Red River Commodities is a leading processor of sunflower seeds

customers. We are seeking a detail-oriented, strategic, and dynamic
Controller to join our growing team and support our financial
operations.
Position Summary:The Controller will oversee all accounting and
financial operations within the company, ensuring that financial
reporting, budgeting, and internal controls are accurate, timely,
and in compliance with all regulations. The Controller will manage
the day-to-day financial activities, drive process improvements,
and assist the CFO with strategic financial planning and
decision-making. This role is critical for maintaining the
integrity and accuracy of financial information that supports both
operational and corporate goals.Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Lead the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly,
and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Provide insightful analysis of financial results, trends, and
variances, with a focus on driving profitability and operational
efficiency.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting for both internal and
external stakeholders, including senior management and
auditors.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage annual budgets, working closely with
department heads to ensure accuracy and alignment with business
goals.
- Perform monthly forecasting to ensure the company is on track
to meet financial targets and operational objectives.
- Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and advise on
financial strategies to optimize liquidity.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Maintain and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard
company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory
requirements, including tax filings, reporting, and audits.
- Oversee and coordinate the annual external audit process,
working closely with auditors to address any findings.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a
collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and financial
decision-making.
- Ensure team members have access to professional development
opportunities and support for their career growth.
- Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Oversee the cost accounting functions related to sunflower seed
processing, specialty grain production, and other food production
activities.
- Ensure accurate tracking of production costs, overhead, and
inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and
finished goods.
- Collaborate with operations to identify cost-saving
opportunities and improve process efficiencies.
- Systems & Process Improvement:
- Lead efforts to streamline financial reporting and accounting
processes, implementing best practices and automation where
appropriate.
- Oversee the integration and ongoing maintenance of financial
systems and ensure data integrity.
- Support IT and finance teams in evaluating new tools,
technologies, and systems to improve efficiency and reporting
accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA
or CMA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial
management, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership
role.
- Experience in a food manufacturing, agricultural, or related
industries preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance
regulations.
- Experience with accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics ERP
systems preferred) and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with cost accounting, inventory management, and
production-based financial analysis.
- Leadership & Communication:
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage teams
effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present
financial information to non-financial stakeholders and senior
management.
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and
decision-making abilities.
